Description

Matcha Boost Protein Hair Treatment — Matcha, Quinoa & Keratin | Ecoslay

Matcha Boost is Ecoslay’s plant-based protein hair treatment — a targeted strengthening therapy for damaged, breakage-prone, and elasticity-depleted curls. Its triple-protein complex combines quinoa protein, keratin (from wheat and soy), and matcha leaf extract to rebuild the hair’s structure from the inside out. It fills microscopic gaps in the hair cuticle, restores elasticity, reduces shedding, and revives limp or over-conditioned curls — all without the stiffness of traditional protein treatments. This nutrient rich protein shake for your hair is handmade in small batches in Atlanta, GA. Works on all curl types from fine waves (2a) to thick coils (4c). .

What Matcha Boost Does For Your Hair:

When hair is damaged — by heat, color, chemical processing, or mechanical stress — it loses protein from microscopic gaps in the cuticle. These gaps cause breakage, loss of curl definition, reduced elasticity, and a limp, over-stretched texture that doesn’t spring back. Matcha Boost is formulated specifically to repair this damage.

The hydrolyzed quinoa and keratin proteins penetrate the hair shaft and deposit into those gaps, rebuilding the natural protective layer. The result is visibly stronger hair with restored definition and shine. The matcha extract helps promote new growth and reduce shedding. Unlike many protein treatments that leave hair feeling stiff or brittle, Matcha Boost helps balance moisture and flexibility, ensuring curls come out soft and bouncy, not crunchy.

  • Rebuilds and strengthens damaged, brittle, breakage-prone hair
  • Fills microscopic gaps in the hair cuticle for smooth, sealed strands
  • Restores elasticity — curls spring back instead of stretching and snapping
  • Revives limp, over-conditioned curls with protein-supported structure
  • Increases the appearance of visibly fuller, thicker-looking hair
  • Matcha helps stimulate follicle growth and reduce shedding
  • Includes Keratin (wheat/soy-derived) Protein — no animal-derived ingredients
  • Formulated to prevent the stiffness common in other protein treatments
  • Safe for color-treated, chemically processed, and heat-damaged hair
  • Vegan and cruelty-free
  • Kid-friendly formula

Key Ingredients

Vegtable Keratin

A vegan alternative to animal-derived keratin, sourced from wheat and soy protein. Penetrates the hair shaft to replace missing keratin in microscopic gaps along the cuticle, resulting in smooth, shiny, stronger hair. Rebuilds the hair’s natural protective layer, increases elasticity, gives hair a fuller-looking appearance, and helps retain moisture. Reduces frizz and flyaways caused by dryness.

Matcha Powder

A powerful antioxidant compound that helps promote growth of hair follicles. Matcha’s natural caffeine content has also been shown to reduce shedding by blocking DHT (dihydrotestosterone), a hormone associated with hair loss. Provides antioxidant protection against environmental damage to the scalp and strands.

Quinoa

Often called the “Mother Grain” of the ancient Incas, quinoa is considered a complete protein containing all 17 amino acids including all 8 essential amino acids. The hydrolyzed form penetrates the hair shaft and helps protect strands, fills in gaps, and conditions from within. Particularly effective at helping repair color-treated and chemically processed hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Matcha Boost is Ecoslay’s plant-based protein hair strengthening treatment for damaged, breakage-prone, and elasticity-depleted curls. Its triple-protein complex of hydrolyzed quinoa protein, vegan hydrolyzed keratin, and matcha fills microscopic gaps in the hair cuticle, rebuilds strength and elasticity, reduces shedding, and revives limp or over-conditioned curls — without the stiffness associated with traditional protein treatments.

Yes, if overused or left on too long. Signs of protein overload include hair that feels dry, stiff, or brittle, breaks with very little stretch, or becomes crunchy despite conditioning. To avoid this, follow the usage time and frequency guidelines for your damage level, always follow Matcha Boost with a moisturizing deep conditioner, and do not exceed 20 minutes on hair at any time. If you experience protein overload symptoms, pause Matcha Boost and focus on moisture-only treatments until balance is restored.

A: The thin consistency is by design. A thinner formula penetrates the hair shaft more effectively than a thick cream, allowing the hydrolyzed proteins to reach and fill the microscopic gaps in the cuticle. Do not be alarmed — apply liberally, let it work during the timed treatment, and rinse thoroughly. Reviewers consistently report that the results far outperform what the formula’s appearance suggests.

Frequency depends on your hair’s damage level. Highly damaged, color-treated, or highly porous hair: use weekly or every 2 weeks for 15–20 minutes. Moderately damaged hair: every 3–4 weeks for 10–15 minutes. Healthy hair maintenance: once a month for 5–10 minutes. Fine or low-porosity hair: every 6–8 weeks for a maximum of 5 minutes to avoid protein overload. Always follow with a moisturizing deep conditioner, like Banana Cream Deep Conditioner

Matcha Boost works on all curl patterns from fine waves (2a) to thick, kinky coils (4c). It is particularly beneficial for color-treated, heat-damaged, transitioning, and chemically processed hair regardless of curl type. Fine and low-porosity hair should use shorter contact times (5 minutes maximum) and less frequent application.

Yes. The hydrolyzed keratin in Matcha Boost is sourced from wheat and soy proteins, not animal proteins. This makes it a fully vegan, keratin alternative. It functions identically to animal-derived keratin in filling the hair’s

The matcha extract in Matcha Boost is a powerful antioxidant compound that helps promote hair follicle growth. Matcha’s natural caffeine content also helps reduce shedding by blocking DHT, a hormone linked to hair loss. The antioxidants in matcha also help protect the scalp from environmental oxidative damage.

Matcha Boost is a protein treatment, not a moisturizing conditioner. Deep conditioners like Ecoslay’s Banana Cream add moisture, slip, and softness. Matcha Boost rebuilds the hair’s structural protein layer, restoring elasticity and strength. Both are needed: use Matcha Boost first, then follow with Banana Cream or another moisturizing conditioner to balance the protein deposit with moisture.

Take a single wet strand and gently stretch it. If it stretches significantly before breaking, your hair is protein-deficient and needs a treatment like Matcha Boost. Other signs: lots of breakage and shedding, curls that have lost definition, hair that feels mushy or gummy when wet, and hair that doesn’t respond to moisture treatments the way it used to.

Yes. Matcha Boost is specifically formulated to be safe for color-treated hair. The hydrolyzed quinoa protein is particularly valued for its color retention properties — it creates protection around the hair shaft that helps seal in color molecules. Regular use can help extend the vibrancy of color-treated hair and reduce the porosity that causes color to fade quickly.

For best results: Combine Matcha Boost with Ecoslay’s Banana Cream Deep Conditioner for a restorative cocktail combo that moisturizes, strengthens, and revitalizes curls.  Finish with your preferred styler, such as Orange Marmalade Flaxseed and Aloe Curl Definer

The formula is identical in both. The 8oz pouch is Ecoslay’s signature eco-friendly packaging made from recyclable materials — significantly less plastic than a traditional bottle. The 8oz Pouch + Jar bundle includes a refillable glass mason jar so you can decant from the pouch, reducing waste further and keeping the conditioner accessible in the shower. The 2oz mini is TSA-compliant for travel.

Matcha Boost is handmade in small batches in Atlanta, Georgia by the Ecoslay team. The matcha extract is sourced through Ecoslay’s Farm-to-Pouch partnership with Metro Atlanta farms.  Ecoslay is a BCorp certified, Black-owned, woman-founded company.

Reviews Summary
Customers say this protein treatment strengthens hair and improves curl definition. Many users with wavy and curly hair report their waves hold shape longer and feel more resilient after use. The treatment provides excellent slip during application, making hair feel smooth and soft without weighing it down. Users frequently mention it helps with breakage and shedding, particularly for fine or damaged hair. Many appreciate the earthy matcha scent, though some find it unusual. The thin, watery consistency surprises some initially, but customers report noticeable results. Several users combine it with deep conditioners for balanced moisture. A few customers experienced over-moisturizing effects or found it didn't provide enough structure for their hair type.

    This works!

I have a chronic autoimmune systom dysfunction and it makes my hair weak. This really really strengthens my hair and helps it maintain its length. I don't see more than normal hair loss anymore. I highly recommend this product.

It works well for my natural curls and for my blow dry styles as it couples well for me with the Buttercream Styling creme.

    Love it!!

I was looking for a new all natural protein treatment when I found this and it is fantastic! I used it along with the mud pie clarifying treatment and my hair was smooth as silk wet and when dry bouncy, defined and super shiny! Now I will have to buy the full size😁

    Yuck! So Disappointed!!!!

I have type 2B low porosity hair. I took the hair quiz and Matcha Boost was recommended. I had already been using the Mud Pie Clay Clarifying

Treatment as well as the Banana Cream deep conditioner to replenish moisture. 3 days after using the Matcha Boost for just 5 minutes this is my hair — ugh!!!! Dandruff EVERYWHERE & SO GREASY & zero wave & my scalp hurts.
